Can't Send/ Receive Mail

I can't send or receive mail in MS Outlook 2002:

First it keeps promting me for my password, but won't
accept the entry. I also get a message that says
'Unable to send the message. Please verify the e-mail
address in your account properties. The server responded:
530 authentication required.

This happened to me once before, and I know I need to
delete something in the Registry, but can't remember
what. And I can't seem to find it in Microsoft's
knowledge base. If you have the answer please pose here,
do NOT email the answer.

You need to authenticate to your SMTP (outgoing mail) server in order to
relay mail through it. Tick the box for that in the Internet Mail account
properties. Your ISP can tell you what login/password to use, or you can try
the default 'use my POP account credentials' feature...

Re not remembering passwords: are you 100% sure you're using the right
password? Note that they're case sensitive.

There are fixes for Outlook not remembering passwords, but from your
description that doesn't seem to be the problem, as it isn't accepting what
you type in...regardless:
