Can't send or receive email while in windows mail

Windows mail in Vista Ultimate says there is an error when I try to send and
receive
email. But then when I close the program and I have unsent
emails in the outbox, it sends them just fine!
When I first start the mail program it works ok, can anyone help
 
I have the same problem, though mine don't send even when closing the
programme. Are you any the wiser yet?

Do you get any error messages?
