Suddenly, I can't send email. Something about "authentication". I've
followed the instructions for a fix through troubleshooting, but that's
useless. Can anyone help? Thanks very much.

I'm having the same problem as of today. Have you been able to fix it yet?
Can anybody help? Thanks!

Why not give us the complete error message?

My windows mail was working fine until this morning. Normally it would send
mail to the outbox, and from there into cyberspace. Today, it just sits in
the outbox. I went thru the troubleshoot; my somewhat savvy husband did the
same. We verified pop2 & stmp settings, etc. No error message. I sent
myself a test email from gmail and it arrived, but again, unable to send.
Any help you can send my way is greatly appreciated! Betty

Uninstall your antivirus program, reboot, and try again.
If it still doesn't send, create a new mail account with the
same settings as the existing account, then delete the
old account, restart WinMail and try again.

Gary: My husband uninstalled McAfee, rebooted, and then nothing EXcept when
he went to close the email, "You have unsent items in your outbox. Do you
wish to send now?" so we click on send and nothing. If I create a new
account w/ the same settings, won't I lose all my old emails? Guess I need
to save them somewhere?! tia, betty

The email account is only used to send or download
new mail, it does not affect existing mail saved in folders.

Mine is doing the same thing...my e-mails go to my outbox and just sit
there??? I also sent myself an e-mail from my kids computer and it went
through, but I just can't send anything???

Once you get a 'ghost' email stuck in the outbox, and it won't let you
send out anything, your options are quite limited.
If you don't feel comfortable doing the database deletion/regeneration
method that has been recommended by Steve Cochran, then your
only remaining option is to install and use a different email program.
Mozilla Thunderbird is free:

I had the same issue. I am pretty sure it's the virus software. I
Uninstalled McAfee and installed AVG and it's working fine.
