Wanted to add my name to the list of people having problems with the GREAT
NEW MS Software, VISTA. Right after lunch today, my email quit sending.
Still receiving, but no sending. Add this to the list of problems since
buying these upgreads.

Are you getting any error message? If so can you post it.

Meanwhile try this. Disable your AV outgoing and incoming email scanning. You will still be protected. It is only another layer on top . Post back with result and error message(s)

There is no error message. There is the normal cycle of "Sending and
Receiving Email" in the blink of an eye, then . . . nothing. Outbox has the
same seven messages it's been building since 1:00 CST. Inbox works fine.
Again, no error messages at all.

If AV is anti-virus and you disable it, how are you still protected?
Is there a newsgroup for virus, spyware and security in general?
thanks

Snipped from a post by Frank Saunders MVP OE

Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus. It provides no added
protection. After doing so it may be necessary to reset the server names in
OE.

Email scanning slows down Sending and Receiving, sometimes enough that OE
times out. Since some of the received messages have large (often virus)
attachments, which exasperates the problem.
Some Comcast users have found it necessary to totally uninstall Norton and
switch to the free AVG with mail scanning off. Norton invented email
scanning and here's what they say:

"Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions."

"...your computer is protected if Auto-Protect is enabled. Auto-Protect
scans any incoming files, including email attachments, when the files are
saved to your hard drive."
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001100907323806

"NAV provides multiple layers of protection. Email scanning is just one of
those layers. Even if you are not running Email Scanning, your computer is
protected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments by NAV
Auto-Protect. Auto-Protect will scan any incoming files, including email
attachments, as they are saved to your hard drive. To make sure that
Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled
and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus
definitions."

So Symantec used to say this often and clearly. The newer stuff doesn't
have the statement included as it was considered an embarrassment. If you
know anyone who programs for Norton try to get them to talk about it.

I disabled my Mcafee email av protection and still cannot send emails.
I am having no problems receiving emails but cannot send them. I can use my
IP email with no problem and am configured to send them and for a copy to go
to my sent box, in Windows mail but they go to the outbox and just sit. If I
open the outbox and highlight the email and click send/receive they just
disappear. Help.

What do you mean by "I can use my IP email with no problem"?

Do you have "Send messages immediately" enabled?

What happens when you try?
Give us the complete text of any error message.
Did you verify the SMTP server name?

Mine didn't give me any indication of the problem either.
Here is what I did, which may be a bit more lengthy than what most people
need to do due to the Vista user problems my version has. Most people should
be able to go to Computer, C Drive, Users, select their user name, and see
the AppData file from there, and I cannot.

I went to start
in the start search area (just above start) I entered C:\Users\my user
name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail (note that Windows Mail must be
written as two separate words)
I clicked on Windows Mail at the top of the list page
I selected WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and pasted a copy in my documents
(just in case)
then deleted the file
I opened the Backup folder
then Opened the New folder
Deleted the WindowsMail.MSMessageStore in this folder
Closed out of everything and then upon opening Windows Mail it restores
itself and also gives you several "restore" folders under the default folders.
I then proceeded to input my emails into the folders by copy and pasting (I
did notice a note online while searching that stated it is not a good idea to
copy and paste several emails at once as this action can cause another
"ghost" email, it also stated that doing anything too fast can cause this
problem.)

I hope this helps. I am more than happy to save anyone and everyone from
having the problems I've had.
