My pop settings are the same as my XP machines, but I am running Vista on a
laptop that won't allow me to send mail from Windows mail (but I can receive
mail in a separate spam program on the same machine.)

The error I get is:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'mail.korksoft.com', Server: 'mail.myisp.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Is port 25 the same one used in Outlook Express in XP??

It often is, but it must match the port where your internet provider
has a machine listening for your emails.

Note that connections to port 25 are often blocked if they cross
from one internet provider's equipment to another's before they
get to the email server.

You may need to check against your internet provider's
instructions for setting up a new email account. The instructions
are often somewhere on their web site.

The difference is that your laptop is not using the same Internet connection
as your XP machine. Are you traveling with the laptop?
