Can't send faxes to some numbers only

Hey people.

I just configured fax console (XP) and sent a few test
faxes successfully to one of those internet fax services
that I use.

But now I am trying to send to a couple of people with
real fax machines, and it won't work. After the receiving
machine answers, it seems like either it can't hear my
computer's modem or my computer can't hear it.

Any ideas?

No. Please make sure the modem you have is comatible with
XP. The list of modems certified is at

If your modem is in fact there, please try to fax to a
number which is being able to receive faxes successfully
from other sources. This way we can assume there is no
problem at the destination side.

If you still could not resolve the issue, please look into
the Event Viewer for any further details about the
problem. In the extreme case you may have to enable some
additional logging to find where the problem is.

I configured the XP fax software for a user I support at a University.
I can send on campus and I can receive from anywhere. However, I can'
send off campus (which requires a 9 before the number) and lon
distance (which requires the 9 and a long distance code after th
number is dialed). I have gone into the dialing rules and everythin
looks correct. I even had a co-worker look at this and he said th
rules look correct. However, every time I get "line busy". I can hea
it dialing the correct amount of digits, but beyond this, I have n
idea why this is not working. I even got an analog phone yesterday an
verified that I could make this type of phone call over the line. Th
line doesn't have any problems. Can anyone help?!

Is the recipient phone number stored in canonical format? It must be for
dialing rules to be processed.
