Can't send emails

A very strange thing has happened in Windows Mail. I have set up an email
account for my son, but messages are getting stuck in his Outbox with an
error message saying something like "one or more messages in your Outbox
cannot be sent because an account is not specified. Do you want to use the
default account?". Answer Yes and still nothing happens.

What on earth is this about? Each user only has one email account, and none
of the other users (4 in all) has this problem.

Hi, Andrew.

Have you tried deleting that account and recreating it? Sometimes gremlins
sneak in somehow and change some settings under the hood that we can't see
in all the settings screens. Recreating the account often cleans up the
unseen mess, letting it work again.

Also, of course, in the Compose window, before you click Send, be sure that
the right account is showing in the From line. On more than one occasion,
I've found something unexpected in this box. This should, of course, show
the account from which you intend to send the email. (For a newsgroup post,
this line is labeled "Newsgroups:")

I deleted and recreated the account, but still had the problem.

I then renamed the account from the default "mail.btinternet.com" to
"Son'sName Email". Lo and behold, outbound emails suddenly started to get
going.

Is there any way that having duplicate account names on the same machine,
even if they are on separate Windows user logins and relate to separate
email accounts, should cause a conflict? It seems very unlikely.

Hi, Andrew.

Thanks for the report back, and I'm glad you got it working.

I don't know much about multiple users, permissions, account names, etc.,
since I'm just one guy with one computer and no net but the Internet.
Nobody uses my computer but me (and my 3-year-old grandson), so I haven't
had to learn much of the multi-user topics. I have several news server
accounts, but only one mail server from my ISP. (Well, I do have an
original MSN.com account, but I can't SEND from OE or WM and usually can't
RECEIVE mail from that account either without using Outlook (not OE).)

But I have from time to time run into the problem of having some mail or
news account suddenly "go kerflooey" on me; often, deleting and recreating
the account fixed it - which is why I suggested it to you.
