Can't send emails when using wireless aircard or another port

Does anyone have any suggestions? When I'm plugged into my cable line at
home, I've never had a problem with sending or receiving, but when I go out
of the house with my laptop, wireless or plugging into someone elses internet
connection, I can receive but not send emails.
The message says something about the authentication, but the info on the
help menu doesn't work. No boxes are checked and nothing has been changed.
I use earthlink, but is that the problem?

Most ISPs block sending emails the usual way if they go through another
ISP's
network before they get to your email server. You might ask your ISP if you
can cannect to the email server through another port than usual to get
around
this.
 
That makes sense. How do I proceed with asking my ISP?
I'm really not computer savvy and definitely not Vista savvy! :)

There's usually a way given on your ISP's web site - but it may require
having
email working first. What's your ISP (internet service provider)?
 
An alternative is to get a Gmail account, and use it for all of your sending
(SMTP server)...
 
You didn't say who your cable ISP is, so I can't look it up, but from
past experience I've found that cable ISPs tend to be behind the
times when it comes to offering modern connectivity features like
an alternate SMTP port for travelers.

So, your only options would be to send via webmail, or get a Gmail
account and use that for sending while traveling.

My provider is Time Warner Cable. I discovered I can go into webmail with my
earthlink account, but I would prefer to just verify my email account with
the AirCard since I will be getting rid of the Cable line now.
Should I call Time Warner?

Time Warner/Roadrunner doesn't offer a means for accessing your Roadrunner
email from off their network, except for using webmail.

If you are trying to access your EarthLink email, they have a tutorial for
configuring an account in Windows Mail.

They use SMTP port 587, and authenication, so you may be able to send email
thru that account while away from home.

Thank you so much for that info. It finally worked. I do have to sign in my
username and password everytime I send an email, but when i do, it finally
goes through! Yippy! :)
