Cant SEND email using Windows Mail

My email was fine until the last couple days - now I cant send any email.

What happens is this: I create a message, hit send/receive. It acts like it
sends it. No messages in the outbox, and the message is in the sent folder.

I am running Windows OneCare. I have tried disabling the firewall and it
didnt help.

It is a pitty, but this NG is about Vista and not Windows-2000 :-(

What happens when you send an email to yourself, does it arrive?
If it doesn't arrive, can you use webmail to check the server to see
if it is there?

He probably looked at the message headers and saw
"X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000"

and I guess he assumed you were using W2K, but it actually indicates that
you posted the message via the web interface. At least, I think it does....

Thanks for the reply! Its appreciated as I have tried EVERYTHING.

Not sure what you mean by 'WebMail'but here is asummary of what I have tried:

- I ran your program a couple times - didnt fix or report any errors

- Disabled OneCare firewall and antivirus both - didnt help.

- Rest my wireless router (LinkSys WRT54g - which I havnt touched in ages!!)

- Enabled logging on my wireless router and looked at the outgoing
connections after I sent an email - I could see an outbound connection to
SMTP to the proper address

- I used my providers web interface to send an email to myself, and received
it via Windows Mail.

- Sent numerous emails to myself trying various settings in Windows Mail.

- Turned off the autotuning feature of Vista , didnt work - turned it back on.

UGGGG - I may setup a gmail account and see if I can use its servers.

Any other suggestions?

Regarding webmail: In addition to providing their customers with a
POP email account, most ISPs also provide a means of accessing that
account via a web interface using a browser. This is very handy when
on travel or away from your home computer.

Not sure what you mean by "ran your program a couple of times."
I have not mentioned a program in this thread, nor am I the author of
any publicly available programs.

With no error messages being generated, it is difficult to troubleshoot
this any further from my end. You may have to go the Gmail route.

Sorry! I thought you were the author of WMUtil.exe since I found this in many
of your posts.

Yeah I have not received any error messages. The only thing I can think of
is trying Gmail....The one other possibility is OneCare is freaking out. My
trust in OneCare isnt that high - although I wish it was!

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection. Beside that,
McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail.

Thanks for the reply - I dont think OneCare scans emails the way the others
do.

My outgoing email used to work with Vista - it just recently stopped. I am
seriously stumped on this one.

This needs to be attacked through a process of elimination, I.e., try
Different SMTP servers
Different email programs (WLM, Thunderbird)
Different Computer
Different ISP

Ok this is weird. It just started working again. So it was either Vista or
OneCare with an update, or my internet provider. But considering it wasnt
working for several days, I would lean more towards an update and not the
provider...

Now if only my xbox 360's 3 flashing lights would do the same!
