Hi all,
I have 2 separate clients (at 2 separate companies) that
are experiencing the same problem. They can send and
receive email fine through the LAN using outlook 2003,
but if they use dialup, they can only receive. Sending
email fails. They are using XP Pro. Has anyone seen
this before? any suggestions?

Thanks!!

You might check the settings on the outgoing mail
server. I had a similar problem with a couple of email
accounts connected to a Web site. Once I got the
outbound settings correct, they work fine.

When running the account settings test, I get the
following error:
establish network connection: completed
find outgoing mail server (SMTP): completed
find incoming mail server (POP3): completed
Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): completed
Send test e-mail message: Failed

Send test-e-mail message: The specified server was found,
but there was no response from the server. Please verify
that the port and SSL information is correct. To access
these settings close this dialog, then click More
Settings and click on the Advanced tab.

Note: the email/account settings are the same for dial-up
and for LAN, but they work fine on LAN and the send fails
on dial-up.

Thanks!!! (TIA)

With the difference that dial-up is not LAN but WAN and probably goes
through your firewall. You need to make sure that this kind of traffic isn't
blocked either server side or client side.
