Can't send email--Error #0x800CCC79

Can someone please help me.

Earlier today I could not send mail. Found out from this website that
McAfee does not work with Vista, so I uninstalled it and installed Avast.

Now I cannot send emails, still.

Getting this message:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Re:
Payroll (Resent)', Account: 'mail.lorettotel.net', Server:
'smtp.lorettotel.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554
<[email protected]>: Relay access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Does your connection cross from one internet provider's equipment to
another's before it gets to the mail server? If so, anything going to port
25 is often blocked.
 
I'm not sure what that meant. I was connected directly useing my DSL Modem
and had a second VPN Connection open. When I closed the VPN Connection, then
I was able to send the email (I think). Thank you...theresa

I don't think Vista allows you to have both a VPN connection and a non-VPN
connection simultaneously.
