Dear All; I'm running Windows 98SE and can't seem to get IE 6 SP1 to
install on my new computer. I have a 2600 Athlon XP, 128K primary
memory, 512k secondary memory, 80G HD with plenty of room for the
update. The install seem to get stuck when the componets seem to start
install and then it said that it couldn't install these componets, and
then the istallation start all over again.

NEED Help so I can install some important programs onto this computer.
Thank for all and any help.

James

Have you tried getting IE6-SP1 via Windows Update (using IE, no other
browser)? To assure a clean install, your anti-virus application should be
disabled and all other running processes closed before installing anything,
including Windows Updates.

Once you've gotten it installed, you'll need to return to Windows Update for
additional patches, James.

If still no joy, post the complete error message(s) you're getting.

Hi. I am not the original poster but I'm having the same problem.

Yes to all of the above

The only error message I get is that not all of the components were
installed and that I need to reboot and try again. I get no error number.
My pc is Win98se running IE5. It has plenty of ram, hd space and has a fast
enough processor.
I've tried installing only a minimum number of components and always get the
same result.
I've tried installing via windows update as well as downloading IE 6 and
installing from my hd. I've had this problem before and just settled for IE5
but now I need 6. I believe I even tried installin IE 6 from a CD that I
have; same result.
Any further ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Shawn
