When I try to establish a remote desktop connection within our LAN between 2
XP pro machines, it won't see any XP machines it will just see our win2k
servers.

Not sure what you mean by "see" ...can you specify the computer name and
connect?

In the remote desktop connect dialog under computer name if you type in the
name of an XP computer and try connecting it will come back with an error
saying the the remote computer cannot be found. The computers show up fine
if you browse through the network neighborhood.

Name resolution is a bit "fuzzy" without a WINS server available...

What happens if you use the IP address?

It works that way. We are using our SBS 2000 as a WINS server with netbios
over TCP/IP enabled without LMHOSTs lookup. Do we need LMHOSTS enabled for
this to work by name.

You shouldn't... Are the client machines using the WINS server? You
can check this by running "ipconfig /all" on the workstation and see
if there is an entry for WINS Server.
