can't see the network on my XP Pro PC but the 98 PC can.

I have a cable ISP that is connected to an ethernet hub.
From the hub, 2 PCs are connected with seperate IP
addresses. Each PC has only 1 ethernet card installed.
However, the first PC is running XP Pro. The other is
running 98-SE. What I'm trying to do is network the 2
together on the same ethernet line as the cable internet
line (coming from hub). I created a network using the
wizard on the PC with XP first and kept the
workgroup "MSHOME" (then I restarted it). Next, I ran the
Network setup disc I made with the wizard on the 98 PC
(restart). I checked both PCs to make sure they had the
correct protocols which they do. Now the funny thing
about it is that the 98 PC can see the XP PC on the
network but the XP can't see the 98 one. And, no, the ICF
is disabled on XP. I ran "command" and pinged both PCs
and they both send back all 4 packets so I know they are
connecting. There is one thing that I should mention. The
XP PC has a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum card that has a
1394 adapter built on it. When I created the network on
the XP PC, the wizard detected my internet being on the
ethernet and that the network would be on the 1394, but
there was no way for me to configure that. If there is
anything else that needs to be mentioned, feel free to
email me or post back. Thanks again in advance.

You should re-run the Network Setup Wizard on the XP PC. This time do not
create a bridge. To this end, run the Network Setup Wizard and choose the
second option (residential gateway). If the next screen shows that you have
multiple connections, again choose the second option (let me choose...) and
deselect all network connections in the next screen. The final screens
should be self-explanatory.

In addition, you may disable the Ethernet over IEEE-1394 network adapter
first, From Device Manager / Network adapters choose the "1394 Net adapter".

Nope. I found the problem. I double-checked the protocols
on the PC with 98 on it and it was missing NetBEUI.
Everything is running great now, however, on the PC with
XP, in My Network Places, my own shared items are listed
as unknown if viewing them with "show in groups" and
arrange icons by "computer". I'm not going to complain,
though. Just thought it was strange. Thanks again for the
attempt, though. HAPPY!!! lol
