Are there any error events on the MC system when the laptop submits a
job?
Pause the printer, then send a job. Open the queue view and look at the
bytes sent.
the spl and shd files should be sitting on the MC system in
\windows\system32\spool\printers (this is the default location, if you
have
changed this, look at your defined location).
If the file size looks okay, resume the printer, check for eventlog
errors.

Alan, I am having the exact same problem as Glen is. I have posted
several
things having to do with my problem starting on Oct 12. Carie was
helping
me
for a while and then she must have disappeared.
I can see and share files btwn my Windows XP home machine and my
Windows
Media Center PC which has the printer attached. I have been able to
print
for over 2 years from my XP home laptop until the massive updates that
Microsoft had a couple of weeks ago. Now I cannot print to the printer
attached to the MC PC at all. I have uninstalled and installed the
printer
on both machines numerous times and still cannot get it to print from
my
XP
home laptop. I can print from the MC PC that the printer is attached
to
and
that is it!!!!!!
I get no error messages when I go through the install of the shared
printer
from either PC.
Any suggestions??? I have searched high and low on Microsoft support
sites
to no avail.
Help please!! I have used this printer in my home office for work and
am
unable to print to the shared printer at all!!!!!!

Well I am not happy to hear that I have stumped MS. None of the
other
computers has this problem, so I do not think that it is the 10
connections
or we would all have a problem. Everyone is connected to the same
amount.
How come I cannot ping it. Should you not be able to ping any
computer
on
the same gateway. I have checked all the computers and printers
and
they
all
seem to be the same gateway. Is there some sort of filter that I
need
to
turn off on my computer that would block one specific IP address?
Was
there
anything in any of the recent XP updates that might be causing a
problem?
This is a recent problem. I could print before, but I cannot tell
you
if
the
problem is concurrent with a recent software upgrade.

Hmmm.... I'm hoping for inspiration. My initial thoughts were it
might
be
XP Home and you'd exceeded the 5 connection limitation..... XP Pro
has a
10
connection limitation. I guess you might still be exceeding that
if
you
are
connected to all the other PCs and the other networked devices.
But other than that, I'm a little stumped for ideas. Especially
if
you
can't 'ping' it.

XP Home or Pro on the PC with the problem?

Cari (MS-MVP) Windows Client - Printing & Imaging

I am having problems seeing a network printer. I have a
small
network
of
five PCs and one laptop. The PCs are hardwired by ethernet
to
a
switch
along
with our server and then the switch is connected to a
Linksys
router.
The
printer (actually an HP Designjet Plotter) and another
printer/copier/fax/scanner are connected at the router,
along
with
cable
modem.
I can see and transfer files to all the computers on the
network
and
I can
print and receive documents from the copier, but I cannot
print
to
the
plotter. I have tried pinging the IP address and I time
out
with
no
response. All the other computers can print with no
problems.
I
have
tried
pinging from other computers and there is no problem for
them;
just
my
computer.
Help.
