hi, ive recently re-installed Win 2000 pro, the network cable is connected to
network - the reason i know this is because it worked fine before i
reinstalled. When i go into Network connections it just says Add network.
When i try to add a network it only displays the option which lets you add a
dial up connection, and the private LAN connection is faded out. I cant ping
another computer on the network either. Do i need install anything else to
allow a network?

It sounds as if your network adapter was not working. Check it
out in the Device Manager!
