Can't see images and other problems

Hello,

I am having trouble viewing images and other problems as well.

1.. In normal view I can see the images on the slide in the left pane but
on the main screen I cannot see the image. I can click around on the screen
and find the image and select it and there are grab bars, but the image is
not there. This is happening for many images in all of my presentations.
Text shows up just fine.
2.. In slide show the images do show up and the slide looks normal.
3.. Some of the images I retrieve from the web.
4.. In <Format><Background><Fill Effects><Texture> the boxes are empty.
There are no textures. I can see the patterns when I click on that tab. In
Gradients, the Variants show no colors.
5.. When I open a new presentation there are the words "Click to Add
Title" and "Click to Add Text" on the main screen but no border around them
and usually there is.
I have had the image problem before and rebooting fixed it but not this
time. Plus, all these other things are happening.

I am running PPT 2003 with Windows XP Home.

Thank you. That did it. I had to cut it back two notches but it restored
everything. I'm curious about two things.

1. what happened to cause this problem since I did not touch the
acceleration feature, and

2. in the bigger picture, does this mean I need a new video card or any
other changes?

Thanks again. That really helped as I need to get to work on a presentation.

Oh, sometimes software resets it -- like games or video editing software,
for example, can re-set the hardware acceleration to the highest level. Most
applications seem to benefit from the hardware acceleration being up. For
whatever reason, PowerPoint doesn't always.

We've also seen an increase lately in the symptoms you describe, so I kinda
think some Windows or Office update has been causing the problem with some
video card and driver combinations. I dunno, though -- I could be just
talkin' out my hat. :-)

I don't think so. You can check for updated video card drivers, but if
knocking hardware acceleration back resolves the problems, I wouldn't worry
about it. It's not an uncommon problem.

I don't think so. You can check for updated video card drivers, but if
knocking hardware acceleration back resolves the problems, I wouldn't worry
about it. It's not an uncommon problem.

Hi,

In addition to what Echo has said, I'd be curious about your version of
Direct x. If you type dxdiag in the run box, it will tell you. Is it 9.0b or
9.0c? Or version 10?
