Hi

I have a winserv2k3 machine where I am unable edit group policy objects. I
go to the group policy object in ADUC and I can see Computer Configuration
and then Software setttings or Windows settings. Under these all I get is:
"There are no items to show in theis view". Similarly for User
Configuration.

I can edit fine from other machines. Am I missing some files/snapins? Any
ideas?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,

I was able to reproduce this by Disabling all of the Group Policy Extensions
under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows
Components\Microsoft Management Console\Restricted/Permitted snap-ins\Group
Policy\Group Policy snap-in extensions.

If you are not blocked from running MMC in author mode you can run RSOP.MSC
on the server and see if the extensions are Disabled in a GPO or in
gpedit.msc.

If these are set in the Local policy and you cannot undo them in gpedit.msc
then open regedit and delete the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Mmc

One more thing...

If these were set in gpedit.msc you will need to open gpedit.msc right after
deleting the MMC key in the registry. You have to set all of the Group
Policy Extensions to Not Configured or the problem will return.
