I've downloaded windows media player 9. I have digital
camera movies being e-mailed to me with the
extension .wmp.avi but they won't play. I can only hear
the sound but get no picture. What can I do?

You need to get the correct video codecs. Its probably
DivX. Search for it on the web download it and install it.
that should do it.

Thanks for your answer. I think the download for wmp 9
says it includes the codecs. But I did download and
install DivX Pro anyway and it didn't make it better. I
still can't get any visual. Other ideas?

Another thing that I didn't notice before is that you say
an extension of .wmp.avi

If that is how it looks, with 2 extensions, then I'm
pretty sure windows cant support or wont understand what
it is. Try renaming the files with only one extension

ie. filename.avi

I tried. No difference. Whether I save it with an
extension of wmp or of avi, I get the same result --
Windows Media Player opens, it plays the sound but no
visual.

I tried renaming with only .wmp and with only .avi. No
difference. Still only sound, no visual. Is there
something else I can try?

Have your friend resave the files without both file extensions and try that.
If the files weren't from a digital camera, rather copies of a DVD, I'd say
it was Macrovision (copy protection). Beyond that, I'm runnin' out of
ideas...
