Can't see display settings

Stupidly I downloaded a free screensaver and now I cannot go into my display
settings to stop it.
If I right click the desktop and select properties - nothing happens.
If I double click Display in Control Panel - nothing happens.
I have managed to stop the screensaver from starting by deleting it in the
registry (it didn't show up in Uninstall of in Program Files).
Can anyone out there tell me how to get my display settings back.

Hi Ray,

Try to acces the display settings from safemode and change the screen saver.
Restart in normal mode and verify.

The behavior of the "free screensaver" is suspect. Supposedly "free"
screensavers are one of the prime ways that computers become infested
with malware and viruses. Your first step is to make sure the computer
is clean:

After you've systematically gone through the preparatory work and
removal steps listed at the link above, if you are still having problems
post back with the results of what the scans showed.
