After using this computer for a year I suddenly cannot
see my D or E drives (they are both CD drives), they do
not show up under my computer and if I put a cd in them
nothing happens. I ran a virus scan and it was clean.

Hi Jon,

See if this helps

An incorrect change to Bios(accessed and accessible when
computer starts) will make CD drives inaccessible. Can get
into Bios holding F1 key down during power up but F key
varies with computer. When you get in, there should be
a "default setting" function key that you can press.
I once messed the settings so badly in trying to fix a dvd
problem that it did not even get to boot, nor would it let
me into Bios. Computer was just a bunch of scrap metal.
So I opened the box and pulled the plugs connecting cd/dvd
drives. Only then was I able to get into Bios and reset to
default settings.

Thanks a lot - it worked
