Hi all,

Let's start off with "I'm not an IT or a network guy".
That said, please see below.

Home office Setup:
Cable Modem into a Wireless Access Point/Rounter.
Access Point has CAT5 to server.
Server runs WinXP Professional.
2 laptops, with PCI wireless cards in cardbus slot.
Laptop 1 (Sony) Win98SE
Laptop 2 (Compaq) WinXP Professional

I've set us a WorkGroup called "Home".

The network was working great for a long time, but the
other day, the Compaq didn't print (Printer hooked up to
the server). Hmmmm....so I checked the Workgroup on the
Compaq. I was expecting to see all 3 computers, but only
saw the the Compaq (bad). Hmmmm...I checked the other
computers (Server & Sony), and in their Workgroup, I saw
all 3 computers (good).

Then I pinged all computer's IP and they all Pinged with
success.

Bottom line, my network sees the Compaq, but the Compaq
doesn't see the "Home" workgroup.

Can somebody lend a little assistance?????

Thanks in advance!

Hi Hollywood,

Ensure all firewalls are disabled. The XP built-in
firewall is only intended for direct connections to the
Internet and must be disabled on local area networks.
Make sure each machine has the same workgroup name and
has the same subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If they are
different, they are on differnet networks.

Had the same problem. The Win 98 machine uses NETBUEI. You
will need to install it from the XP disk. It does not
install automatically. If you want to communicate with a
mixed set of operating systems, you will need the NETBUEI
protocol as well as TCP/IP installed.

Confirmed: Yes...the Workgroup name is "Home" on all
computers.

What would you like me to try now?

Thanks in advance,
Hollywood

See my last response below. Problem still exists.
