I just got a used Canon F50 for my parents. It is an all in one -
printer, copier, scaner, fax machine.

When I did the setup program, it came up with the error that no
printer was connected. I rebooted, retried, and it worked. It did have
an error at the end that a file didn't load. I did not write down the
file name.

After that, it printed fine from the programs. It copies fine from the
auto loader. It copied a color photo from the flatebed and printed it
fine.

When I went to photoshop, and selected import, it gave me the scanner
option and opened up the standard window to scan a photo. When I
choose preview or scan, the scanner starts to go, then quits. I get a
message that there is a file missing or corrupt. It says to
reinstall.

So, I go back and try to install, and it gives me that error about not
finding a printer connected. Even after rebooting and shutting down
all programs. It will not go through the installation again. I tried
downloading a more current version of the driver from the canon
website, but I get the same problem.

Any suggestions? Any idea why the setup program won't recognize that
it is connected when the other programs have no problem with it?

Or how I can fix/replace that file?

It may not be your scanner software.

I have seen times, when Photoshop (Elements and SE) has lost its TWAIN
interface and won't work with scanners.

The fix is to uninstall Photoshop, reboot, then install Photoshop.
You get a fresh install of Photoshop and any missing or corrupted files are
fixed.

Yep, maybe.

Got another imaging proggie that has TWAIN interface?
If so try it.
If not, get irfanview. See if TWAIN works with it.
If it does, then Carl's suggestion is prolly it.
If it doesn't, then TWAIN part of the Canon software isn't cutting it
for some reason.

Check that the Canon drivers are loaded and not the Microsoft ones.

System properties > Hardware >Device manager.

And do a forced driver reload. Add Hardware etc
