i have just downloaded the spyware and in the first time
running the quick scan, it automatically closed itself in
the process when it should be still running. i tried
several times and whenever it comes to scanning a
particular file, it stopped and closed the window. is it
some virus attacking the spyware so i can't even
finishing the first scan? pls give some advice, thx a
lot !

Hi

You must probably do this in safe mode.

Follow this:

- Download/Install CCleaner, www.ccleaner.com

- Download/Install Lavasofts Adaware

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022-10319876.html?tag=list

* Also watch the video from Cnet about Adware within page
for best result.*

- Download Winsockfix, just a precaution if you loose your LSP.
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257

- Restart in *safe mode*, press F8 during reboot

- Run CCcleaner and remove all temporarily junk.

- Run Adaware, fullscan

- Run MSAS, fullscan

- Restart

There are several versions of malware out there now that
will not let AntiSpy run.

Get HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe

Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Open it and select
Scan and Save Log. Note where you saved the log then
send it to me as an attachment.

Hi Bettina,

Firewall on? antivirus current and up to date?

Boot into Safe Mode (F8) at startup;
Empty your temporary files AND your Temporary Internet Files* C:\Documents
and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder ;
Run the scan while in safe mode;
If you are running SP2, open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons, and uncheck any
BHO's that you don't recognize.

*The .tif are Temporary Internet Files, and are stored in a different barn
than 'normal' temp files.
Here's how I kludge thru to them: Open Windows Explorer--->C:\Documents and
Settings. Then it's to the Tool Bar--->Folder Options--->View--->Hidden
Files and Folders and check the box "Show hidden files and folders" > Now
expand C:\Documents and Settings and under each user you will now see a
folder "Local Settings". Open that puppy and choose Temporary Internet
Files. I am not concerned about the cookies therein, but everything else
can go for now.
