In OL 2003, I created a new rule to direct incoming mail to a specific
folder. At the end, I checked "Run this rule now" but nothihng
happened. I reopened the rule, clicked the "Run rules now" option and
tried to run it several times, but still nothing. There is a message
window that flashes too briefly too read.

I don't yet know whether the rule works on actual incoming messages.

When you use "Run Rules Now" you must first select one or more rules you
wish to run.

Yes, I understand that. Note that I said it doesn't work when I create
the rule (which only requires checking the "Run this rule now" box) or
when I try to run it standalone after creating it (with the
appropriate rule checked).

What is the exact rule? If you create another (test) rule does that work?

have you tried running the rule on the correct "run in folder"? perhaps the messages you want to run the rule to is not found on the default folder. or try checking the "include subfolders" option. hope it helps.
