Cant run programs

I can not run alot of my programs,for example when I try to run my virus scanner the new window shuts down be fore i can do anything,same thing happens when I do a run:msconfig the window opens then closes

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
 
Your problems have all the symptoms of a virus. Download Housecall from the
web for free and let it find and delete your viruses. Turn off System
Restore afterwards , reboot , then restore System Restore. Good Luck . Jym

I had the same problem after doing a clean install of windows xp. I fixed the problem by doing a virus scan in safe mode and found two viruses, w32.hllw.gaobot.gen, with the file name winhlpp32.exe and idasp.exe. I quarantine them and my problem was solved. I check my regedit and there was nothing there.
