Can't run programs

Whenever I trie to run certain programs like Maya,
3DSMax, or UT2K3 I run the program but it doesn't start.
When I open the task manager and check processes it says
the program is running, but the program never starts up.
Please help me ;)

You sure? Hold down <alt> and press <tab> repeatedly, to cycle through
the running programs.

Look at the icons in the Notification area (far-right taskbar) and see if
there is an icon for the program there.
