Hello all,

I've a problem with windows 2000 server. As a part of my training practice,
I have installed Active diredtory and terminal services as well... all was
well until I installed symantec anti-virus corp. edition. When I installed
symantec it gave me realtime scan cannot be initialized error.so I
uninstalled it without restarting it the system. when it asked to restart the
system I ignored it, thot i'd restart later. Sometime later I removed
terminal services and restarted the system. And from then, I am unable to run
any thing form the GUI mode ! When I double click on any program or try to
run any installed program from start menu...I get this error : "Cannot find
the file '<file path>' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and
filename are correct and that all required libraries are available." After I
click [ok] another window popups with "unable to run command" message with
"windows explorer" as window title. But I can open Internet Explorer by
double clicking the icon on desktop but cannot open the same from start menu
! Also, can open docs by double clicking. Ofcourse I am using Administrator
account.

But, I can run/open all programs through dos mode ! I can open "command"
from start->run. cmd does't work from GUI...I can open "cmd" from command
mode though.

I dont want to spoil further so I have not tried to resolve this issue
myself. I've searched net to know the reason behind it, no luck yet.

can anyone help me please....

Thanks a lot,
~sudharma~

Hi,

It sounds like your system has been heavily screwed up by Norton/Symantec.
I'm fed up with this AV as well due to massive install/uninstall problems,
not scanning/updating issues, systems coming to a crawl etc. I heared
similar
stories from other people. So beter avoid Norton/Symantec in general.

If this server is for practice purposes only, better wipe the disk and
install Win Server from fresh.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Actually, I've uninstalled symantec and then removed
terminal services and restarted the system so I am curious to know if the
problem is with my improper terminal services removal or is it with symantec
! How do I know whether the terminal services's removed properly or not ? I
thot to re-install terminal services to check but I could not access
add/remove windows componet page. I am still using the server as it is ! I
mean I am running all programs thru command mode...

Thanks again,
~sudharma~
