Can't Run Programs From Network Location.

Hello,
I was successful at doing this with Vista RC1, but now that I've got
Vista Business it doesn't and I'm not sure why. I have programs located on a
network location. I am able to log into the network & the location of the
file. When I try to run the installation or setup program at that location
it asks me if it's OK, I give it permission. It then tells me my password is
invalid (Not exact wording). What's odd is I can copy the files & paste them
on to my machine & then run them locally. So, I have permission to log in &
even take files off? I can open notepad files & such. It appears to only
affect setup type programs. Is it something in the security settings I'm not
catching?

Thanks,

RoyStreet,

I'm sorry you're experiencing problems. The sharing and permissions model
in Vista has changed substantially over that of XP in order to be more secure
by-default. Please review the changes, and note the settings, indicated in
the below TechNet article:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/vista_fp.mspx

If you still have problems after following the suggestions in that article,
please let us know.

Thanks

Hi Kim,
The documentation doesn't really address the particular issue I'm having.
Especially considering that Vista RC1 had no issue concerning this. So, I'm
not really basing this question from an XP perspective, but from a previous
working Vista perspective. I'm not exactly seeing (in the documentation)
where it would allow me open files like notepad docs, but installation files
wont work? Now, I can copy the installation file onto my local machine from
that location & install it there. So, Vista is having no issue installing
the file.

Thanks,

Hello Again,
I may not been as clear as I would've liked to be in my last message.
This whole process did work with RC1 with no problem. My password is correct
especially considering I can open up notepad files & read them. A setup
"Type" of file will not run from that location. I can copy that exact file
from the location onto my local machine & then run it perfectly fine with no
issues. I have not changed the permissions on the network location. The
only difference is that I am now running the prodcutino version of Vista
Business. Now, off of the top of my head I believe when I tried to open a
word document from that location it told me it couldn't find the file even
though I was clicking on the file to open it. Now this last part is from my
memory, but I don't know if that will help?

Thanks Again,
---roystreet
