Did you scan in safe mode and do a full system scan? On the scan page,
choose scan options > full system scan (check the boxes below) click "Run
Scan Now". Also disable System restore before restarting in safe Mode. Right
Click "My Computer" > Properties > System Restore > check "Turn off System
Restore". Restart the system in to safe mode. Reenable System after scanning
and restarting in safe mode.

Restart in safe mode instructions:

Get HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe

Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Open it and select
Scan and Save Log. Note where you saved the log then
send it to me as an attachment.

Thanks, Andre, for that detailed advice. In fact I just
did my first full system scan since I installed
AntiSpyware, and it came up with no threats detected. I
had been doing daily quick scans, with IPInsight and
various other odd files coming up as high threats. Each
time I'd select Remove, but they were still there after I
rebooted. I'm not sure what happened in the course of the
full scan causing them to no longer show up. Does that
mean that they weren't really there, in spite of what the
quick scan was detecting?

Also, I tried to start my HP in safe mode numerous times,
and cannot get it to work. My F8 key doesn't seem to have
any effect. Any ideas about this? I tried holding F8 down
for a long time, pressing it as soon as "Windows logging
out" disappeared from the screen, and nothing worked.
