Can't Reliably Set Drives To CHKDSK On Reset...

Glenn P.,

We have a Windows XP Pro system here, and I'm having trouble getting
drives to be scanned upon system reset when I want them to be.

I try using CHKNTFS, but this does not always result in a CHKDSK being run
on the designated drive when the computer is reset, and indeed, the help
information promises no such result. It says only that CHKNTFS "schedules
a drive to be checked at boot time; [and] CHKDSK will run [only] if the
drive is dirty." In other words, if the drive ISN'T dirty, CHKDSK isn't
run.

Well Sir, I insist! I'd like that gosh-darned drive to be CHKDSK'ed at
system reboot, whether it be dirty or no!

Is there any way of FORCING a CHKDSK upon system reboot? Or failing that,
of setting or marking a drive as "dirty" (even if it isn't), so that
Windows will scan it on reboot even if it otherwise wouldn't?

Any assistance would be appreciated; thank you.

On my system I get a choice when I ask for a check disk (right click on the
drive->properties->tools-Check disk) - that says "I can't check this drive
now. Do you want to do it on the next boot?". It's always worked for me.
