Can't reinstall Xerox XE88

I have a little home network 3 computers, all running XP Home XP2. I had my
Xerox connected to one, and it was available to all computers. I have
relocated the computers, and have it connection to a different one now -- it
does that tone when it's plugged in, like it's found it's USB driver, but
it's not there. I previously deleted the driver through the Printer/Fax
"Server Properties" menu, shut down, shut everything off, and rebooting,
hoping then it would recognize the printer on the different computer, but it
won't. The driver available is a Parallel Port driver, and I can't have it
connected that way.

Any suggestions. It's so frustrating because it was working fine until I
plugged it in to a different computer.

Thanks

oh yes, but it's not the port that doesn't work anymore, it's the cable
that's hard-wired in my wall -- I don't want to use it -- I want to use the
USB cable

But it's a parallel printer.... yes? Therefore it does not have the correct
data hardcoded in it for the PC to be able to correctly identify it.

You cannot (usually) connect a parallel port device to a USB port.... the
USB port NEEDS to know what it's connecting to and if it has no idea, it
cannot tell the operating system.

Yes, it's both -- I did some more digging around -- and downloaded something
from DriverGuide that's supposed to be it's XP Driver -- there was two files
in the Zip -- one for installing it LPT1 and the other for installing it as
a USB. I discovered through trial and error that if you install the
parallel driver first - it configures the port for LPT1 and USB -- then you
can install the USB driver, and the port will recognize it and you can use
it with USB cable.

I'm only documenting this in the event anyone else gets the same problem ...

Thanks for your information.
