I video tape football games and homes for people. When I video tape, I edit it on Movie Maker2, send it back to the camcorder, send it to the DVD recorder but the DVD recorder thinks it's copyrighted material and it's things I have recorded. So i have to send it first to VHS then to the DVD recorder, then I loose the quality. Does ANYONE know why the DVD recorder would think the MM2 edited version is copyrighted? How do I fix this or do something differently? Thanks!

Sounds odd, if you can get it into MM2 to edit it in the first place - it
can't be very copy protected.

What are you saving it out as? What DVD recorder and software do ya have?

This is video that we are filming, it isn't copyrighted. We are using Movie Maker 2, and were using a Samsui DVD recorder to make copies of the home movies. Was saving it as WMM. I am not sure why it says it is copyrighted.

Hello there,
Copyright Management (MacroVision is one of them) is a data stream
that occupies the small band of data usually at the top of your
picture....you can sometimes see very small lines and dots moving
around if the TV set is not adjusted properly.
If you are using a tape that has at some time in the past held a
copyright'd program it is possible that the data stream still exists.
Introducing the tape to a strong magnetic field prior to recording to
it might help if the problem lies with the dv-tape, using a brand new
tape would prove whether or not the problem/solution is with the tape.
Why do you send it back to tape prior to sending it to DVD.
If you have no choice about sending back to tape first there is a
device you can buy from Maplins (in the UK) called a Digital Image
Stabaliser, it removes the digital protection track from video as it
stabalises the picture. I bought one some time back it works quite
well.

What happens if you try to record directly from the
camcorder (unedited) to the DVD recorder?

Is your camcorder digital? Are you transferring the
video via the IEEE-1394 (FireWire/iLink) interface?

If so, why are you saving in WMV format? You should
save in DV-AVI format.

What type of connection do you use between your
camcorder and your DVD recorder?

Sorry for all the questions, but the more information
you provide, the more likely it will be that someone
will be able to help.

I just made my first 1 hour slide show, transferred it out via firewire to my
Sony Digital 8 camera, because my new sony DVD camera doesn't have firewire,
only usb. When I tried to feed it to my new Philips DVD recorder via s-video
it would not record because it thinks it is copyright protected. It looks as
though the software has added something. From the threads it seems this is
not a feature one can turn off in the software. ??? I am going to try to tape
it over to VHS then to the DVD recorder as suggested in the thread.

I too own a phillips DVD recorder. I have the same problem, but with a
twist. The orginal video will record to the DVD, but anything that I edited
or added in to the movie comes up as copy protected. I have contacted
phillips and they are clueless, or they say the problem is in movie maker. I
also have a cheap cyberhome DVD recorder and it records the movies fine so I
know it is the phillips that is causing the problem, I sure wish someone
would come up with a solution cause this is a pain in the butt. Pax
