I have a broadband intternet connection (comcast) that works fine the first
time I log on after booting. If I log off & try to log on after an hour or
so, it can't find the server, so I have to reboot, then log on. Same
procedure repeats itself. If I shut down IE 6 and reopen in a few minutes,
its ok
Anybody with an idea ???
Thanks
John
JnIl----> I've tried everything you said, but it keeps recurring!

HOST file manager is nice. Spysweeper by Webroot is an awesome program, imo
and only costs $20-$30 for a year of support. It includes a HOST file
manager.

: I just noticed that I dont have a "hosts" file. Is this of any
significance

Hi John :-)

First, unplug your modem and let it set of 5 minutes, then plug it back in.
This may reset the modem connection. Sometimes a modem can experience a
hung-until-power-cycled situation.
If you have NIC, disable it and see if that helps. You might also try
another modem to see if that will resove the problem.

If you have a router, check the connections between the router and modem,
and the modem to the machine.

also...

Disable the autodisconnect feature:

Click Start> >Settings> Control Panel>
Double-click Internet or Intenet Options icon

If you had the INTERNET icon, click on the tab that says CONNECTION, then
look in the middle of the window. There will be a checkbox that says
"Disconnect if idle for ." and put a check in this box. Then press OK and
the Idle Disconnect feature should be disabled.

If you had the INTERNET OPTIONS icon, click on the tab that says CONNECTION,
then look for a button labeled SETTINGS on the right-hand side. In the next
window that comes up, look at the bottom portion for "Dial-up settings" and
on the right, click on the ADVANCED button. In the next window that appears,
here will be a checkbox that says "Disconnect if idle for.". Click on this
box to place a check in it, then press OK until no more OK buttons are
displayed on the screen. The Idle Disconnect feature should now be disabled.

Hope this helps :-)

Well...I'm really sorry, but, I'm fresh out of ideas for you. You can
double check all the settings for the Firewall, AV and connections, and
perhaps there is something I have overlooked. Wish I had more to offer that
would resolve the problem, but, hopefully, someone else here will help you
find the solution.

Good luck! :-)

John,

I had a similar problem that was caused by the network card drivers. Try
reloading them. Also, look in the control panel under 'network' and see if
the TCP/IP and adapter listings are correct for your ethernet card. Mine had
hyroglyphics next to them which probably meant they were corrupt. I
reinstalled the adapter and TCP\IP ( takes 1 minute to do ) and now joy.
Just click 'remove' for each and then 'add' to reinstall and reboot the PC.
Try it and let us know if it worked.

Steve
