Have just rebuilt system with brand new disk drive. Updated as far as
Windows Update wanted to take me (SP3 plus hotfixes after that). Went to
read from USB backup device, and it wasn't being seen on any USB port.
Checked KB, which said that SP4 would fix. Like a fool, installed SP4 w/o
archiving files. Got a BSOD for corrupted heap, didn't record message.
Restarted with last known good configuration, which seemed to back out
problem well enough, then restarted again, but still am not getting USB
devices recognized. What now?
Please don't just give me the long list of SP4-Caused stop KB articles, I no
longer get the BSOD on reboot. Just want to know how to get my USB backup
drive seen.
