I have set up my gmail account to Windows mail and I can send email just
fine, but I can't receive any emails. When click inbox nothing shows up. If I
click Receive All messages on the taskbar I get an error message from windows
mail that says:

Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR not supported 29pf5633005wrl', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

I tried to turn off the McAfee antivirus to disable email scanning but this
didn't work.

can anyone offer any suggestions?

Google mail haven't updated there instructions for POP to include Windows
mail so there may be a compatibility issue, i'm not sure. The main
instructions for setting up the POP account are here:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13276&hl=en_GB

Have you enabled POP in your Gmail account? Open your gmail account and then
click Settings in the top right hand corner (next to your email address). In
settings click the Forwarding and POP tab and then enable the POP for all
mail option.

If POP isn't enabled in your gmail account this may be the reason you are
unable to receive mail from google via Windows mail

By any chance, do you have "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"
checked? It should be unchecked.

If all else fails, try uninstalling McAfee.
