Ya, the modem is on the HCL list.
The error message does not say much, unfortunately, I've moved on to trying
WinFax Pro, so I don't remember the MS Fax error exactly (just something
like "error receiving fax").
I still can't get the modem to receive faxes even with the new program
though. Here's what I've done:
- Updated to Windows XP SP1, then all patches including one for Microsoft
Fax
- Installed WinFax Pro 10, then 10.02, latest version for XP
- Configured modem for Class 1, then tried Class 2.0
- made a direct feed to phone line
- I've actually tried another modem as well and couldn't receive faxes, but
I only tried in MS Fax
This problem does not seem to be specific to any software (I've tried 3).
The only thing I can think to do is do a fresh install of the drivers,
removing all traces of the previous ones, and inf files so that files aren't
skipped for overwriting. Do you know of a utility or list of procedures for
this?
Otherwise, do you have any other suggestions to get the modem to receive?
Thank you,
C

What is the error message?
Is your modem on the Windows XP HCL list?
Many USR modems are not compatible with Windows XP Fax.

Hi,
I'm having a problem with the Windows Fax program where I
can't receive any faxes. They always give a very vague
error after a really long time trying to receive.
I have a USR5699B modem with the latest updates and
drivers.
I appreciate any help you can offer,
C
