I recently bought a new computer, running windows vista.
under my husbands user name, we were able to configure windows mail, and
send and receive with no problem.
under my user name, i can send emails, but cannot receive. i have checked
to ensure that all is set up correctly-can anyone help??

Do you get an error message? If so, copy it and post it here.

I had same problem but eventually discovered incorrect spelling in account
properties. Make sure all and really check correct spelling in your
"general" & "Servers" windows of "Internet accounts" I found SMTP transposed
into SMPT. Hope this helps. Joe

no, i do not get any error message. it seems to send and receive with no
error, but my incoming mails are not downloaded. i have deleted my account
profile, and added it again, to ensure that all properties are set up ok, but
it still will not receive.

i have deleted my account, and re-added it, to ensure properties were all
ok-but i will check once again.
thanks,

If there is no error message, what happens when you click on Send/Recv?
Do you get a small window with progress info, such as "Authorizing..."?
Are you sure there are messages on the server waiting to be downloaded?
Can you see those messages when you log in via web mail?
Have you tried to send yourself an email?

windows mail looks as if it is receiving successfully, but no messages come
through. when i log into web mail, i do have new messages, including any
that i have tried to send to myself.

Very strange. Have you tried uninstalling your antivirus to see
if that makes a difference?

yes, i had a trial version of mcafee's. i uninstalled-still no difference.
the fact that my husband's email is working properly is what confuses me.
could there be something missing in the installation of windows mail-only
under my user name, not my husbands??

I take it you and your husband have different email addresses?
Do you share one home computer, and if so, does each have a
separate Windows user login?

I have a similar (or the same?) problem.
I can send, but not receive Email. disabled incoming email scan by Norton.
Checked, doubled checked settings. Deleted, reentered accounts, etc.
The Dutch service provider Orange said "we do not support Vista, check with
Microsoft"
But Outlook works fine on the same machine with the settings. Should I open
a new thread Gary??

Is there any indication that WinMail is polling your mail server?
Any error message?

Some users have reported that WinMail didn't start working properly
until they completely uninstalled their Norton or McAfee AV program.
You might give that a try. Once you have the antivirus uninstalled,
rebooted and have retested WinMail, I suggest you install the free
AVG antivirus (minus its mail scanning module).

Go to the Inbox and check View | Current View
Make sure that "Show all messages" is checked and nothing else is checked.

The only possibility I can think of is that your account was already
corrupted by the time you uninstalled McAfee antivirus.
Try creating a new email account for yourself, with the same settings
as the old account, then delete the old account, close WinMail,
reopen, and try receiving again.

Gary,

thanks for your time, but your suggestion did not work.
Outlook runs fine, winMail not. I also get no error messages. How/where can
I see that Win Mail is polling?

In WinMail, when you click on Send/Receive, you should see a box pop up and
it should say Connecting to (your server name).... Checking for new
messages, etc..
It goes by pretty quickly if you don't have mail.

If WinMail is working normally, when you click on the Send/Recv
button, it puts up a progress window that shows status of the
mail server polling attempt, like "Connecting..", Authorizing...", etc.

You might as well stick with Outlook since it sounds like your
WinMail is almost completely unresponsive.
