Hi,
I backed up my *.pst file using the import/export
function. Formated my hard drive but now out look won't
read that *.pst. It says the file is 28Meg so I assume
the info is in there somewhere. I've tried using the
import/export function - I've tried replacing the
outlook.pst file with the one I backed up(when I do this,
all the folders are empty) and I've tried going to File-
open->outlook data file (when I do this it just goes
back to outlook:today.

Any other ideas on how I can access the info in this
file?

Do you get an error message when you use File -> Open -> Outlook Data
File? Did you back it up to a CD? If so, all files on CD are
read-only, and they remain that way when you copy them to the hard
drive. Right-click on the file and remove the Read-Only file attribute.

It says that the file I want to open is not a personal
folders file - but I exported it as one and it is a .pst
file. I didn't save it onto disk and it isn't read-only.
Confused....

You formatted the drive but still have the .pst file, so you must've
saved it somewhere. Backup tape maybe? Or a disk image from which you
are recovering a single file? Have you tried restoring/recovering the
file again from whatever backup media you used?

Have you tried running the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) against your
..pst file? According to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287497, the
recovered .pst file will have empty folders but should also have a Lost
and Found folder with the recovered items.

How big in bytes is your .pst file? 1.87 GB (usually referred to as 2
GB) is the max size. You may need to use the crop tool
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;296088) to
truncate the file.
