message. would like to send the file to someone who might
help.

Hi,

First, what is your PowerPoint version, and some more details. This link is
to recovering a corrupt presentation, assuming that is what is wrong. Please
let us know more as that may help find out what is causing the corruption.

Hi,
I have the same problem. Old presentations made with PPT2000 do not
open in new 2003 (Error: Powerpoint can't read blahblah.ppt). These
presentations are NOT corrupted: infact, I can open them perfectly in
the old PPT2000 (that I wisely left installed on my pc....). The
strange thing is that I have other presentations in the same group of
lessons, with the same format: they all contain images, no videos or
audios, so they are quite simple and not so big (max 2mb).
I think that MS should work harder on backward compatibility, I'm
ready to give Office2003 back....

Hi Andrea,

no need to give your Office 2003 back - they've noticed this bug already ;-)

Microsoft has already provided a hotfix for this problem, which you can
download at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828041,
though I'm not sure, whether this will work on an Italian version or whether
there's a separate Italian version available. Please report back, whether
this was useful for you.

Kind regards,
Ute

Hello Kent,

It sounds like you are encountering a known issue for which a Critical
Update is already available.

The update is available in all languages.

The easiest way to get the update is to (in Word, PowerPoint or Excel)

1) Choose the "Help" menu
2) Select the "Check for Updates" command
3) In the web page the comes up use the "Check for Updates" link to verify
whether you need to install the update.

If you need the update, you will shown a link that takes you to a page with
more information about the update and instructions for downloading it for
the desired language.

NOT TRUE! K828041 critical update did not solve the opening problem of Office2003,

Uninstalled and applied K828041 again only solved Word opening problem (it used to be
unable to open as well), Excel and PPT still unable to open file which I have full confident
works in Off2000, unfortunately, I already uninstall it, (Regret that MS QA has not done
compatibility testing of Office 2003, simply open an old office file can realize it has problems!)

I had tried numerous times, all privilage is open rwxrwxrwx on ppt and excel.

Word -- can open, template "normal" still comes up every times upon quitting.

Excel -- can't open

PPT -- can't read

Outlook -- can open and function properly. Great that more info, also hard to distinguish
if more than one accont because of those little greyout font.

Off2000 here we go again! *#@!

Half day migration from O2K to O2003 another half day to revert back to O2K, patches
updates and lost settings.

Users: THERE IS NOTHING WORTHWHILE TO SWITCH O2K TO O2003.
O2003 = 450 Mb disk space
O2K = 110 Mb disk space

MS: Ex-Geeks pls spend some time do some REAL work instead of stifling competitors.
No matter how super-stopper your tools are, if it doesn't work, it is useless.
Glad I got O2003 as gift. I rather ask for the $500 on spa treatment instead,
it is afar better value with guarantee feel good transformation.
