Bob:
You porbably don't have the Word conversion tool for
microsoft works installed. Place the Microsoft Word or
Office CD in the PC, if the autorun doesn't start the
installation wizard, Open Control Panel and Add/Remove
Programs; Highlight Microsoft Word or Office(whichever is
applicable to your original installation) and then click
the Change or Remove Programs button in the upper left
corner of the Add or Remove Program Window, this will
open a window for Word or Office Maintenance Mode, select
Add or Remove Features, follow the prompts and expand the
Selection Options for Word to find the conversion Option
for Microsoft Works. I recommend that you add all of the
conversion tools that you might ever need for Word and
any other Office applications at this time.

I hope this solves your problem.

Sincerely,
Mark

Hi Bob,

In Word, go to the Tools menu and choose Options. On the General tab, check
the box labeled 'Confirm conversion at Open'. Click OK. Now go to File,
then Open, browse to the folder a Works document is in and if need be change
the 'Files of Type' drop down menu to 'All Files *.*'. Select a Works file
you wish to open and open it. Scroll down the list that comes up and choose
which version of Works used to create that document and say OK.
