Can't read mail in OWA

I'm getting a new server finally, but in the meantime I
need to fix what I have. Exchange 5.5 on NT4 box with
mobile clients using OWA after they get past a firewall.
The screen shows all of the mail in the inbox & all of the
various folders can be seen and you can even drill down
multiple levels of folders seeing all mail. But when any
piece of mail is selected to be read, the window that
opens says "The page cannot be found" & "HTTP 404 - File
not found" instead of displaying the contents of the e-
mail. This setup has been working good enough for a few
years & now all of a sudden it falls apart on me.

You might want to ask this in an Exchange group as Outlook Web Access, as
you know, is a function of Exchange, not Outlook.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Ron M asked:

I did. In two places. This is the only posting that has
gotten any response at all. Granted, not a solution but
at least some communication!

One reason for a 404 in OWA is if the subject line of the email contain
restrictive characters and you are running the IIS lockdown tool
specifically the URLSCAN part! But for it to happen to every email is very
unusual
