I have two PCs (one runs XP home; other runs 2000 pro)that
are networked together and sharing a cable internet
connection via a hub. Ever since I installed sp3 on the
2000 computer I have been unable to access [Roger's] DNS
server from that computer alone and can not access the
internet from that computer. I can still access my XP
peer computer via network and the internet works fine on
my XP still (which is how i'm writing this ).
DHCP 'appears' to be working fine: ipconfig shows def.
gateway and proper addresses.
My event viewer has two types of errors (only since sp3
installed): dnscache ID 11050 (can't contact dns server)
and dhcp ID 1003, 1007(can't contact dhcp--although
obviously it can, since it's getting a Roger's address and
not an APIPA address).
Ofcourse, I didn't archive my files when installing the
service pack so I can't roll it back. All of MS's
solutions assume that the DNS server is under my control.
Anyway, I've searched for a resolution to this problem and
have tried these suggestions thus far: 1. installed sp4
2. replaced dhcpsnap.dll with a sp2 version. 3. removed
all hotfixes to eliminate potential conflicts
Any more ideas?
PS: I do need sp3 to run office 2003 so hopefully a
solution involves leaving sp3 intact. -sigh-
