Can't print. Printer not recognized

I haven't been able to print anything for almost a year. Don't have much
money to have my pc looked at by a pro so I hope someone here can help.
I had a Lexmark and a Canon installed on my pc. I decided to remove the
Lexmark because it sucked and that is when my problem happened. Since then I
haven't been able to print anything. I tried uninstalling and re-installing
the canon software but it won't even let me uninstall it. Well, I guess it
partially uninstalled because the canon doesn't show up on my list of
installed printers. When I clik on "install new printer" an error occurs
saying "operation not possible". On occasion I get the message "spool
service not running". Well, I googled that one and tried starting the spool
service but it wouldn't start.
I am afraid that my OS(winXP) is corrupt and I will have to do a clean
install. Problem is that my pc is a Sony (PCV RS-310) and they didn't even
include a windows cd and the restore discs that they had me create will not
work! They even stated that on their support website. I asked for a windows
XP cd but they never responded. Please help. Thank you.

You should post this question in the windowxp.print_fax newsgroup. Be sure
to tell them what model of printer this is.

In the meantime, check the manufacturer's website for updated drivers and
software for the printer.
