Hi all:

This seems to be a common problem with Windows XP, but I haven't come
upon the solution just yet. I'm running Windows XP with SP2 installed.

Clicking on a sent fax, for example, brings up the preview, and if I've
used a cover page I can see that. However, moving forward through the
fax I'm presented with 1) a picture of a grey box with blue and yellow
boxes inside it and inside each colored box are words like "bison", "la
llama", etc. Clicking forward again results in a partial add for DSL
service.

If I do Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types and click on TIF or
TIFF I get the message "Opens with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer"
which I understand is correct.

If I click on one of the above file types then "Advanced" > "open" I
read "Application used to perform action : rundll32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1" which I
believe is also correct.

I read about the Norton problem with regard to viewing faxes and went
in and fixed that, too.

So far, no improvement. I'm still getting that weired box of colored
boxes and that partial DSL ad.

What am I missing here?

TIA.

Well, the answer was in here all along:

"The problem was my own stupidity. I was not
aware of the existence of the 'page button' controls as opposed to the
'next
image' button control. The fax viewer works exactly as it should."

However, within the fax viewer, what's the distinction between an
"image" and a "page"?

The buttons on the left (left and right arrows) sure seem to suggest
"next page" and "previous page" and I'll admit I wasn't reading the
text information that pops up when you place the cursor on one of the
buttons, but even if I was I'm not sure it would have made any
difference.

OK, the solution's here after all from a previous post:

"Just figured it out. I've been hitting 'Next Image' instead of 'Next
Page'."

Very weird button layout in the viewer. The left-most buttons would
seem to indicate "page forward" or "page back" but I see now that what
they're really for a "next image" and "previous image" with the "page"
buttons in the center of the row of icons.
