It is most likely something local to the machine, not directly related to the
version of Windows. See
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm and read
sections 3 and 4 carefully.
P.S. When posting in a newsgroup it's a good idea to *not* provide your valid
email address. Spam harvesters might pick it up and you'll be flooded with
unwelcome mail. For example, fudge your address by inserting "nospam" (without
the quotes) just before the @.

I've been trying to get an audio file to play automatically with a slideshow
(using PPT 2000) when saved and played on another PC. I read a lot of
tutorials, and tried one suggestion which was to zip the files into one
folder. I sent it to two people--one running ME and another running XP. The
one with ME was able to succesfully open the file along with the
accompanying music, but on the XP computer, only the slideshow played.

I then made a pps using PPT 2003, again with an mp3 inserted that's supposed
to run throughout the entire show. I saved it both to a USB disk and CD
(using the Package to CD feature). I tested the CD on a laptop running
Windows 98SE, and everything worked fine--the viewer came up, and the music
played automatically as soon as the show started. But when I tested it again
on my PC running Windows ME, only the show would play and not the music.

I don't understand how it works fine on 98SE, but not on ME. Could it be
something in my system that's gone wrong (something corrupted or not working
properly, perhaps?), or is there a system conflict between Windows ME and
XP? I've been trying to figure this out forever and would really appreciate
any info.
