I recently updated my Catalyst drivers for the first time in over a year and
since then have been unable to play DVDs using Windows Media Player. I can
play any video files ok, just not DVDs.

Does anyone know what the problem could be and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Strange, I must have had a DVD codec installed previously, because I used to
be able to play DVDs no problem. Could updating Catalyst drivers have
removed my DVD codec?

You didn't mention the make and model of your card. If it's an AGP card, you
will sometimes need to reinstall the motherboard chipset (AGP GART) drivers.

Yep it's AGP, a Radeon9800Pro. But I don't think I even have the drivers
for my motherboard chipset...

I'm kinda wishing I'd never tried to update my catalyst drivers now :(

You should be able to get chipset drivers and BIOS updates from M/B mfg
website.

Try installing the ATI DVD player.(atiCDwiz.exe) Requires the ATI CD for
ownership verification. IIRC it came on friends Radeon disc. After it's
installed Media Player should be able to play DVDs as well. My cards are AIW
so I just always install it.

I had similar problem for some reason when I downloaded the latest
Windows Media Player all of the video codecs disappeared. You can do a
Google search and find several websites that have the necessary download
for FREE. Lot's of websites try to sell them to you. Don't buy what you
can get for free.

My WMP couldn't play DVD. So I installed PowerDVD players which
contains
DVD codecs. Now I can play DVD using WMP.
