can't play certain mpegs: can't find mplax.dll

When I try to view certain .mpg files, windows media
player can't find mplax.dll and then media player closes.
It also use to report it couldn't find cpuinf32.dll but I
downloaded it and copied it to the system directory. This
problem is causing other programs like Nero to not work
either. It used to work fine. Any suggestions because I
can't find mplax.dll anywhere online.
