Can't Play CD

I am on Win 2k fully patched.

I cannot play a CD on my machine, either with
Windows Media player (6.0.11.872) or
with Real Audio (9.00.00.3075).

I can't go to a newer version of windows media player,
because it disables my Nero.

I can play anything else, mp3's wav etc.. with either
Real audio or windows media play,

I just can't play CD's,

When I open Windows media player or real audio it finds the
CDA files, or tracks, and lists them, I can select a file but when I
press the
play button the player either windows media player or real audio,
seems like it is playing, the progress bar moves, but no sound comes out.

The volume is turned up.

Any Help Would be appreciated.

Check you master menu for sound to see if the CD 'mute' is checked or
unchecked.
