In Win XP Pro - when trying to do a "ping" from the command line to check
out my internet connections - I get a message that the command is
unrecognized.

I think I may have inherently disabled the service that allows pinging and I
was hoping someone here could direct me back to the right one.

The system works fine and internet connectivity (dsl) works fine.

Thanks

from your root dir try this:
dir /s ping.exe

It should be in %windir%\system32 (ex. C:\WINDOWS\system32)
If its there, you may have a problem with your path. Enter the word 'path'
at the command line to see if this directory is in it.

If ping.exe is not there, but in a different folder, just copy it over. if
it's not on the machine at all, you have an incomplete OS installation.
It's a protected system file, so it would be difficult to simply delete it.

It's in the directory and will run if I am in that directory.

How do I get it to run from any prompt or, can I?

Thanks again.
